Silence Is The Demise Of Your Business

Silence Is The Demise Of Your Business

Have you ever sat down and felt this urge to create, write or say something ‘controversial’? To push the envelope, to release the tiger from the cage, to reveal more truer parts of your story?

An insight or lesson that a deep-seeded pain or trauma made possible, a stance on a taboo subject, a new direction in business that could threaten it’s livelihood without societal or community ‘approval.’

You hear the calling—it’s been calling for a while. You’ve heard it in the wee hours of the morning when it’s just you and your thoughts…to the restless, ongoing imagination at night.

Yet, you have no grasp on what to say, how to say it, or where to possibly begin. So you try and tame her. Silence her. Force her back in her tiny, locked box, making every attempt to lose the key entirely.

The thing is…she is a part of you, not going anywhere.

Bullied to Ballsy: The 1 Thing Change-Makers Have In Common

Bullied to Ballsy: The 1 Thing Change-Makers Have In Common

Last week I found myself in a dream-like situation: notifications muted, decadent cold brew in one hand, tart green juice in the other and compelling conversation front and center. I was at one of my favorite cafes, sharing my affinity with the proud owner, a conscious woman who sources her organic, farm-to-table menu items from 40+ suppliers, not missing a single beat in quality, ethics, or seasonality.

She’s introduced something fresh and new and coveted to the neighborhood—one riddled by the ins and outs of popular chain restaurants, and the slower-than-national-average taking to…wellness. Yet still, her modest, cozy outpost, complete with a total in-house, cutting edge water filtration system (never did ‘house’ water taste so good), hand-crafted, superfood-inspired menu and happy daily regulars—is proving to be something people didn’t realize they needed or wanted, and are sold.

As people came and went, we chatted about things from vitamins and minerals for optimal skin health to the implications of Glyphosate on organic crops and remarkably, her journey to restauranteur. I was most fascinated to uncover what ignited, or set her on path. Her response was one I hadn’t expected, yet in hindsight, makes perfect sense.

Imposter Syndrome: An Entrepreneur's Epidemic

Imposter Syndrome: An Entrepreneur's Epidemic

The moment has arrived. You’re about ready to press the ‘Go Live’ button and be on display to a bunch of people who will see you but you won’t see them. Your palms are sweaty, your heart is racing and your mind is running rapid. So you sit there, staring at your keyboard. ‘Does my hair look crazy?’ ‘Am I going to stutter and sound totally stupid?’ ‘What if no one shows up?’ ‘Will my childhood neighbors who I haven’t seen in 20 years see me and think I’m crazy?’ ‘Will Aunt Marge laugh at me?’ ‘Will I be figured out or exposed as a newbie?’ ‘The girl with 40K followers who goes live every night, I could never do as good as her…’ Suddenly, 20 minutes have passed. You sit and procrastinate some more until the pressure becomes so intense you manage to distract yourself with another task.

The relentless and daunting journey of breaking out onto the online space and staking your claim through posts, blogs, and the infamous video live stream...

The truth is, that this mass resistance of a wall you’ve built around your own visibility and storytelling can be a big problem for your business.

What The Top % Of Entrepreneurs Know That You Don't

What The Top % Of Entrepreneurs Know That You Don't

Early days in my coaching practice unfolded to a similar song and dance—the exact dance I had bowed out of months prior—as an over-worked and unhappy corporate person.

The very thing I had run away from—bursting daily agendas with little to no actual time for creation or flow, I had created in my own business.

The conditioning and programming was engrained so deeply; days are long, the work never ends, stress, intensity and exhaustion are badges of honor one seeks…

Until you realize those things are the antithesis, or metaphorical border wall, of human optimization and innate life pursuit.

F*ck Normal: Being Different In A World Of Sameness

F*ck Normal: Being Different In A World Of Sameness

If you’re reading this, you must feel different.

You must live, choose, act and do different.

You’ve felt this difference for a long time but managed to tame it down in order to fit and blend in with the others.

You went along with the ‘typical’ and ‘usual’ and ‘probables’ … all the while fighting the deep longing to simply do what you wanted. Create what you wanted. Express exactly what your soul ached to be expressed.

Travel the world. Help millions. Create like the artist you are. Serve like the servant you are. Love like the lover you are.

And these very things required your natural, God-given state of EXCELLENCE. Focusing, creating, living, performing with EXCELLENCE. The highest standard of being, which has always been you.

Because you’re different.

You’re not even normal.

And if you hear ‘NORMAL’ one more time…you’ll burst.

And Being A Creator Not Victim—Of Your Life.

The other day I was in an off-the-rails political discussion with someone closest to me (in my entire life). This person, despite the contrasting lens in which we see certain social issues and policies, you see, we share a congruent value system and moral code. We might not agree with one another, but we try and get each other, from left to right to everything in between.

In today’s world, battling over anything, no less political gripes, is certainly not abnormal. But it is for us. Because we talk. We communicate. We listen to one another. We give each other the space to share and then dissect, understand, resolve. I love this about us. I protect this about us.

The other day, I fell short. On my commitment, on my integrity, to show up for him in this way.

Say Yes To Your Soul (And Life Will Say Yes To You)

Say Yes To Your Soul (And Life Will Say Yes To You)

Today I was midway through writing a blog post…and hit DELETE.

From the moment I started, it felt forced. There was no ease or flow. But I carried on, trying to ‘call in’ the magic, and it just didn’t come.

The farther I got, the more out of integrity I felt. Plus, if I’m being totally honest, it wasn’t that great. So I gave an honest look and decided to let it go.

I then got up, walked around a bit, listened to a mentor’s audio, made some breakfast, played with the dog outside and did a 30 minute HIIT workout.

I then realized how far I had come.

5 Signs You're A Rebel (#2 might shock you).

5 Signs You're A Rebel (#2 might shock you).

Looking back, that was my first call toward rebellion, or doing life differently than the majority.

That seed was my internal compass, my point of difference, my unique-as-a-snowflake guide in the world—navigating college to career to city life and beyond.

As a 30-something, I’m a ride-or-die rebel. Less in the taboo sense, more in the empowerment, stick-to-my-guns sense.

You see, the brules, or bullsh*t rules, society tells us are the way to live? I confront. Question. Poke holes in.

The Non-Physical Exercise That Was The Secret To My Weight Loss

The Non-Physical Exercise That Was The Secret To My Weight Loss

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled to embrace my body.

In High School, I wasn’t one of the ‘skinny ones’. The same applied in college, especially after the introduction of ‘4th Meal’ — which I pegged as pure genius at the time…right up there with ‘Kegs & Eggs.’

When I moved to New York at 22, I had a whole new host of caloric temptations provoking the impressionable senses.

And I also had New York Sports Clubs (NYSC), the pre-boutique fitness era of gym frenzy to devote an hour a day to. I would claim an elliptical and become entranced for the next 45-60 minutes.

And I wouldn’t lose weight.

I’d try again the next week. And the next. And next.

For years I couldn’t seem to crack the code. I started to believe I was the size I was, and so be it. After all, being overweight was totally ‘in my genetics.’

But what I really was?

Asleep. Disillusioned. Out of touch.

Your Ego Is Running Your Life (Here's How)

Your Ego Is Running Your Life (Here's How)

In my opinion, I’m convinced much of the world is ASLEEP. If I were to make an outrageously bold and unsupported assumption, I would imply 80-90% of people qualify as sleepy, desensitized purveyors of life on OFFENSE.

I used to be one of them.

Every morning, despite the iPhone harp alerting my eyes open, they were half-way open at best.

I would begin by preparing my mask for the day, whipping the outer shell of me into a presentable corporate woman whose wardrobe was dictated by policy, and numb to the idea that my painted on face may or may not be in the line of fire for harsh criticism by the bully ‘in charge’.

Why You Need To Check Your Status Less (And Your Pulse More)

Why You Need To Check Your Status Less (And Your Pulse More)

That’s why you’re here, too. You’re curious about healthier living and thinking and being. You’re eager to do better to feel better and know the direct impact that can have in your life and career and business and relationships.

When was the last time you checked Instagram or Facebook?

When was the last time you checked - really checked - your breath?

Here is the bad news.

With the combined impact of social media on our mental and emotional health combined with the modern-day American diet and lifestyle … Baby Boomers are more sick (and dying younger), then their parents. This will be the first generation to potentially not out-live their parents.

My Coach Costs More Than My Rent (And Has This Super Power)

My Coach Costs More Than My Rent (And Has This Super Power)

It wasn’t until my early 30’s that I realized how taboo the topic of money was in our culture and society. In corporate, it was looked down upon, in fact, a ‘terminable offense’ to compare salaries with colleagues. In family and friend groups, it was a topic that was neatly tucked away in the hideaway valleys of earnings anonymous. There was plenty a evidence of struggle and debt and ‘lack’ but no real candid conversations around the universal thing that provides freedom across every aspect of life.

A 9/11 Tribute: Living With The Promise Of Tomorrow

A 9/11 Tribute: Living With The Promise Of Tomorrow

As an impressionable High School girl, the experience of 9/11 would inform my days and years to follow. I would leave my small town and attend one of the nation’s most diverse universities. I would embrace and welcome and love all people as my parents and grandparents had beautifully modeled all my life. I would soon call New York City home, and love it with all my heart for 12 years strong.

My love affair with a city of community and colors and character carries on. For 2,983*, this adventure ended on that picture-perfect day.

Stop Asking For Permission (Here's Why)

Stop Asking For Permission (Here's Why)

When was the last time you had an idea that needed validation from someone else? When did you go against the guidance of your intuition and ask for an outsider's opinion? When did asking for permission become your thing?

Stop seeking external guidance on internal affairs. Stop giving someone else the authority over you. Stop showing yourself on a subconscious level that you aren't to be trusted in making decisions. Stop trying to put out your own flame.

How To Change Your Mindset For Success

How To Change Your Mindset For Success

When asked about our thoughts and beliefs toward money, (because fact has is that 80% of success is determined not by action or strategy but MINDSET), responses ranged from ‘I can’t make money like other people can’ to ‘I’ve never been valuable enough to make good money’ to ‘I like being frugal’ and ‘If I make more money my freedom will be gone or people will expect me to help them.
