I haven’t slept through the night in over 6 months.

The other morning with breast milk all over my shirt and coffee in my hand, I thought about how fortunate I am.

In the U.S, most women are “back to work” by now.

Their newborn is probably waking throughout the night, even multiple times, because the 4-month sleep regression is real… managing feeds, pumps, etc., on top of it all… and within hours they need to be showered, presentable, functioning—and ready to work their 9 to 5.

Thinking through this made me feel a sense of rage. For the high expectations and low support placed on mothers.

It also made me feel immense gratitude. For the fact that this is not my reality. If it were, I’m not sure I’d make it. I suppose we always find a way, but it’s not something I can wrap my sleep-deprived brain around.

I feel gratitude for having a business that I’ve created which allows me to work 3 days a week and earn a corporate income. For work days that rarely start before late morning and finish well before dinner hours.

For having both my purpose work and my family in their rightful place—because both fuel me. Both are required. And it’s not always easy.
