If you’ve gone from a successful career into coaching and “it’s not happening fast enough,” it’s possible that you’ve forgotten the non-linear journey of success. Let me explain…
In the early 2,000’s I spent six-figures on a college education. My first job out of university paid a starting salary of $39,000. It would be six years before I would earn six-figures.
Between 2015 and 2020, I invested upwards of $50,000 in the very best mentors and programs to learn how to build a business of my own. Since I had transitioned out of a high paying career, I expected the money to come quickly. It took double the time - and struggles - I had expected.
I had forgotten about the non-linear journey (and price) of success—because I had been living it for so long in my ‘past life.’
It’s this sort of blind entitlement meets amnesia thing that happens: “I’m a successful / smart / capable person and professional…surely this can’t be too hard or take too long to get going!?”
Losing sight of the many nights leaving the office after 7PM, the years struggling to pay bills, the impossible deadlines and demands coming from the top, the work trips that required 15 hour days, the countless proposals and projects that never went anywhere, the family moments missed over the years and even decades…
The things that at the time paved the way to bigger titles, paychecks and accolades—with time.
Because there’s no such thing as overnight or fast success.
The thing that most coaches and experts miss? You can tap into the wisdom of your past to inform how you navigate your future.
For example, what traits did you leverage in your career that led to your success? Was it an ability to lead or influence others? Tap into this as you write blogs or articles in your coaching business or in conversations with potential clients or partners. Were you someone who could close deals without ever selling, purely because you developed an authentic relationship with people? Use this approach in creating clients.
Another one…did you show up everyday no matter what and give it your all, even when things were challenging, overwhelming or not working? It’s easy to do this when there’s a manager, board of directors or team you’re answering to. Now that you’re on your own, you need to have similar checks and balances in place. What and who are they?
Was there a mentor or sponsor - or several - who you relied on and turned to for guidance and support over the years? Who is your guide and support now? Beware of a common illusion familiar to scrappy leaders turned business owners who believe they can “DIY” their business. It’s a seductive trap that sinks dreams daily. Building a career and building an online business are not one in the same.
When you can release yourself from the idea that growing your coaching business is a flawless and speedy line from A to Z you’ll not only take the pressure off but you’ll be able to open yourself up to the right kind of support.
Hint: it’s probably not the guru promising “Six-Figures in Six Days” or the marketing specialist guaranteeing 30 hot leads straight to your inbox everyday.
It’s the person who normalizes that, while there are 4 or so strategic things you can do to fasttrack your success—there will be challenges, failures, and NO’s along the way…nothing you haven’t navigated before. :)
By the way, in case you’re wondering—these 4 things are:
1) Having confidence about your offers & prices and knowing how to put together your knowledge and gifts in a way that makes sense, is targeted to a specific person, and makes clear what kind of outcome people can expect from working with you;
2) Turning on a reliable client stream and ending the rollercoaster of emotions around finding clients, specifically, knowing exactly what to do to create high quality connections and consistently grow your network by 50-100 people each week;
3) Creating clients elegantly & powerfully so you never have to guess again how to create high-value clients successfully! Part of this is knowing exactly what to say and how to invite, create, and enroll clients in a simple but powerful conversation or two (that clients thank you for) and;
4) Experiencing satisfying sales by eliminating the need to convince, persuade or “sell” clients ever again…instead, developing a powerful enrollment tool that wows your clients with truth and transparency, does the heavy lifting for you and attracts the most qualified and empowered clients.
Coaches and leaders who apply this method in their coaching business tend to experience $8k, $10k, even $20k+ months within 6 months or less and importantly, have the skills and tools to repeat these results time and time again, for the lifetime of their business.
For the first time ever I’m teaching this 4-Part Client Creation Framework in an instant access online class and nothing makes me happier than putting 5+ years of mistakes, failures, learnings and what felt like SLOW SLOW growth—into something that will truly help people speed things up (with a whole lot of truth telling and transparency to really set you up for long term success - the only kind that matters anyway). ;)

Before we started working together I was seeing clients and I was making money, paying the bills. But I didn't realize just how small I was allowing myself to play until I started working with you. It’s been over and beyond what I thought it would be—over and beyond.
